We are grateful to Nik Wilson for allowing us to use three of his images below (and to his brother Tony for sending them in).

These were part of a series of cards created by Nik in the 1960's for the Noel Tatt greeting card distributor. No doubt they were inspired by the Heath Robinson character and his inventions of that era with possibly some influences from The Goon Shows written by Spike Milligan and others for BBC Radio back in the 50s and 60s.

Note the reference made to the Green Line services on the plane, having recently celebrated their eightieth year in existence.

50 or so years on, the London route 38 has recently reverted from articulated single to double-deck operation. Look at the bus advertisements carefully. Remember those Binns adverts on many buses in the north east? Of course, those were the days when cigarette adverts were allowed . . . but it looks more like one from the 'stop smoking' campaigns we are accustomed to these days!
