MANCHESTER AIRPORT: The largest airport outside of London, it is the 12th busiest international with aircraft coming in every few minutes to its three terminals so there is always something interesting to see. It is home to 95 airlines and handles 19½m passengers per year. It has a public access viewing area.

A wet and wild day, an afternoon visit to Manchester Airport to see the arrival of an Emirates Airbus A380, an impressive aircraft landing after its 7 ½ hr flight from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The A380 is the world’s largest airliner; the Emirates examples having 489 seats in a three-class layout. The most impressive points about it are its enormous size and how quiet it is. This is the jumbo jet for the 21st century.

For a link to the A380 specifications on Emirates’ website CLICK.

Other aircraft seen include a Lufthansa Airbus A320 on a flight from Germany, a Flybe Bombardier Dash twin turboprop a Monarch Airbus A321 and two Jumbo jets.

A preserved BEA Hawker Siddeley Trident can be found at the entrance to the Aviation Viewing Park.

The Anglo French Concorde was the world’s fastest civil airliner, flying on the edges of space, it achieved speeds of Mach 2 (1496 MPH) nearly 25 miles/minute.
