This year sees the 125th anniversary of Blackpool Tramways. The 29th of September 1885 saw the opening of the system and the start of operations
using trams powered by electricity.
To celebrate the occasion, on the 26th September Blackpool Transport opened its Rigby Road depot to the public.
It was a mixture of open day, bus rally, conducted tours, a swapmeet and of course the fascinating trams both inside the depot and running on the
promenade. There was also a programme of musical entertainment which ran all of the time that I was there.
The event seemed to me to be very popular with at times the queue for the guided tour trailing some way down the road.
I travelled on the Transpire excursion which was as usual well organised. The vehicle provided for the day being the former Blackpool Leyland
Atlantean UHG 353Y which comes from the Chesterfield 123 group.

I went to Blackpool for the weekend mainly to see the trams. On Sunday 26 September I discovered an open day at the bus depot where
I took the pictures below.
The tram pictures will be found on my blog at the beginning of October
HERE.
1. Modern buses provided an acoustic screen for various bands and choirs.
2 & 3 ABOVE & BELOW: Former Trent 701 at the back of the depot. I saw very few ex-Trent Olympians this year.
4 & 5 ABOVE & BELOW: A Ribble line up with a PD3, Atlantean and this magnificent pre-war Leyland TD.
6. Does anyone remember the 'Trippets' in Loughborough? They were operated by Leicester City Bus using vehicles like this one.
7. Trent had some of these but they were quickly sold to Yorkshire Traction and replaced by Solos.
8. Blackpool PD3s.
