A Personal view by Tony Wilson
Sunday the 7th November 2010 for some was a day of nostalgia to sample the sights, sounds and smells of days gone by, whilst for others it was an
occasion to see how their parents and grandparents travelled back in the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. I refer of course to the annual running day at
the Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum.
There was something for almost everyone to see and in many cases ride upon, with examples from AEC, Albion, Chevrolet, Daimler, Guy and Leyland.
And of course there were some fine examples of a marque associated with a city in the West Country, in fact enough to wave a stick at. They were
there in all shapes and sizes Ks, L, LD, LH, MW, RE, SC and VR.
Transpire and the 123 Group along with friends and family travelled to the event in three of our local vehicles the Chesterfield Panther 93,
the Leyland 225 and the Strathtay Leopard, Lee Roddis, Tony Stacey and Shayne Howarth being our drivers.
There were so many different vehicles available for one to ride upon, be it on the shuttle service to and from a local car parking area, the regular service to Lincoln City Centre and a number of Mystery Tours.
Perhaps the highlight for me was to be able to enjoy two of the latter. The first in the on Southdown 677 Leyland Tiger PS1 / ECW which took us for
an hour on a most enjoyable ride for an hour through first the suburbs of the city, then onto the city by-pass, along some delightful lanes, the
A57 and back through the city centre. Our driver fairly made the bus ‘sing’, although there was the odd ‘bum’ note, which actually I am sure that
we all enjoyed really. My second tour was in NWRCC 206 a Bristol L, and driven with spirit and gusto around the local highways and byways, again
for almost an hour, the accompanying Albion from South Yorkshire having at times difficulty in keeping up.
With some splendid sunny but crispy cold conditions it was for me an absolutely superb day out and comes highly recommended. The date
is already in my 2011 diary.
