Trentbarton My15 livery revealed

Sent in by Richard Lomas & Dennis Basford. (28 April 2011)

Richard Lomas writes: Here are pictures taken in Ilkeston this morning.

On the Trentbarton website it states:
"Five new buses will enter service on Saturday, April 30, and to mark the occasion, local MP Jessica Lee will be the special guest at a launch event in Ilkeston Market Place. At the same time, the service will be renamed my 15. Featuring plenty of reasons why people use this busy route, we'll also be inviting customers on the route to send in pictures of themselves to feature on the outside of the brand new buses."

Dennis Basford writes: I had a ride to Ilkeston this morning which was sunny and chilly at the same time. The purpose was primarily to have a look at the new Versa in TB 15 livery and here are the best of my photos. The bus was parked on the edge of the market which wasn't the best place for photo's. I took a number of other photos which I will send off to Colin Sellers to go on Focus on Flickr (HERE).
PS. The chap in the funny green suit apparently is 'Mr Mango'.

On Thursday 28 April some will be on view in Ilkeston.

On Saturday 30 April the new buses will be phased into service as the day goes on.

Diversions in Ripley

By Kathy Lomas (18 April 2011)

For a while this Monday morning buses between Ripley and Swanwick were diverting via Argyle Road which is not usually used by buses. This was because the top of Butterley Hill was closed by the police because of a major incident (we think a murder enquiry). The services affected were The Nines and the 90 in both directions.

Hulley's, Gee Vee and a question

By Ian Moorcroft (15 April 2011)

Hulley's Optare Vecta 14 was sold on the 14th April to Richard Fletcher Metals, Chesterfield for scrap. It is parked at the back of their yard (visible from Whiting Valley Road) besides what looks like a Marshall bodied bus in green. Is this ex East Midland RE CRR 537J which was for sale on Ebay recently or is it another bus, any ideas?

Below is a photo of the ex Bakewell Coaches Setra W10 ALN, now the odd man out in the all Bova Futura fleet of Gee Vee Travel of Barnsley, seen in Chesterfield Coach Station this afternoon.

Parking enforcement needed!

By Colin Sellers (16 April 2011)

See entry below

Some Stagecoach Chesterfield drivers were dismayed when they found that the new double yellow lines around the tourist information centre were not being enforced today.

Common sense prevails in Chesterfield!

By Colin Sellers (13 April 2011)

Buses crossing Chesterfield frequently are often delayed by inconsiderate drivers, parking their cars behind the tourist information centre on Church Way, blocking the bus lane. As I crossed on Monday I noticed that there were no cars parked there and that magic double yellow lines had appeared along with the kerb markings to stop anyone parking there. A driver told me that the parking attendants had been issuing tickets to offenders.

3. . . . but some people are ignoring them. Perhaps a parking attendant with a notebook will be along soon!

Replacement Hulley's 14

By Ian Moorcroft (8 April 2011)

Optare Vecta 14 (M803 PRA) lasted until April 8th when it was replaced by the new number 14:

DENNIS DART SLF / MCV EVOLUTION AE 56 MDN, new to Cavalier, Cambridgeshire since taken over by Stagecoach who numbered the bus 33312 (I believe).

The Vecta will be stored as an emergency spare pending sale (yours for £1800 + VAT) but will probably be scrapped upon MOT expiration if it is not sold.

According to BUSES magazine the old number 2 (Dennis Dart / Plaxton Pointer P881 PWW) has been sold to GHA, Corwen for spares after being written off in an accident last year.

A picture on Flickr (found by Phil G) of the 'new 14' when owned by Stagecoach may be viewed HERE.

. . . and here it is in Bakewell working for Hulley's on 9 April 2011 (photograph Ian Moorcroft).

East Coast line crossover at Newark

By Tony Wilson (6 April 2011)

In response to a question asked by Ken Jones on his WH Line article. (on this webaite HERE.) Herewith illustrated are two images taken of the level rail crossover in November 2007. This was one of those pure chance shots taken from the top deck of Chesterfield Corporation Leyland PD2 decker fleet number 225. This was on the occasion of a Transpire outing to the annual Lincoln Vintage Vehicle Society event at their Hykeham, Lincoln museum running day. As we approached this location someone spotted the former GNER express speeding southwards. So quick reactions just about managed these results as a 225 sped at around 100mph across the crossover, the images taken from another 225 through not so clear windows! Thus whilst the images might not be the clearest, hopefully the end result is worth illustrating for its historical aspect in more ways than one

By John Moore (4 April 2011)

Doyle's put into action a completely recast tendered network in Mansfield today (images 1 to 3).

Image 4 shows Trentbarton's new Solo. This means on days when all liveried Solo's are operational, every seat that passengers on the Nines sit on will be upholstered in leather!

Nottingham update

By Richard Lomas (3 April 2011)

These pictures illustrate some of the changes to the Nottingham bus scene during the first quarter of 2011. Not illustrated are Premier's withdrawal of service Red4 from Nottingham to Long Eaton via Sandiacre on weekdays and the introduction of a Sunday service. Red4 now operates on Sundays only. Premiere's evening and Sunday journeys on tendered service 331 to Alfreton have been withdrawn.

Nottingham April 2011                         Nottingham April 2011

1 & 2. Timetables at Broadmarsh for Premiere's new Red5 service to Long Eaton and the revised Bargain Bus service 4 also to Long Eaton. Red5 runs every 20 minutes (M-S daytime) on a new direct route to Long Eaton leaving the city via Castle Boulevard. BB4 has been reduced to every 30 mins and extended from Briargate to Long Eaton.

Nottingham April 2011

3 & 4. Tb's Indigo provides the most frequent service to Long Eaton but Premiere's Red5 is the most direct and is timetabled to take 7 minutes less.

Nottingham April 2011

5. Veolia still operate the former Barton Nottingham to Oakham and Melton Mowbray service.

Nottingham April 2011

6. The Bargain Bus service to Cotgrave has been increased from every 30 mins to every 20 mins. Although BB 4 now operates through to Long Eaton Green, no mention is made of this on the fixed destination display and to further confuse customers the bus in the picture was going to Cotgrave.

Nottingham April 2011

7. A Red5 arriving in Long Eaton. The daytime service is soon to be extended to Wilsthorpe Road.

Nottingham April 2011

8. An NCT Pathfinder on service 100 to Southwell which runs every 20 minutes.

Nottingham April 2011

9. YourBus have started a competing service Y100 although this is being withdrawn in mid-April.

Further changes are planned by Bargain Bus, Premiere and YourBus so watch this space.
